Royal Ascot isn’t just one of the most prestigious events in the horse racing calendar — it’s also one of the most stylish. With centuries of tradition and a famously strict dress code, planning your outfit is just as important as picking a winner. Whether you're heading to the Royal Enclosure or enjoying the day from the Grandstand, here's how to dress the part.

Royal Enclosure Dress Code (Ladies)

Elegance is non-negotiable in the Royal Enclosure. Here’s what to keep in mind:

Hemlines: Dresses and skirts must fall just above the knee or longer. Lace and chiffon are welcome.
Shoulder straps: Must be at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide — no thin straps or off-shoulder styles.
Trousers & jumpsuits: Trouser suits and jumpsuits are allowed, but must be full-length and of matching material and colour. Jumpsuits must fall below the knee.
Outerwear: Jackets and pashminas are fine, but what you wear underneath still needs to meet the rules.
Hats: A traditional hat, or a headpiece with a solid base of at least 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter, is required.

Other Enclosures at a Glance

Queen Anne & Village Enclosures:Still formal, but a little more relaxed. Dresses and jumpsuits can be shorter, halter necks are acceptable, and fascinators are welcome alongside hats.

Windsor Enclosure:No official dress code, but smart daywear is encouraged. Think: summer dresses, jackets, and a hat or fascinator to keep things chic.
